Lara took this picture last week in Paris, while she was thinking of hidden symmetries. Meanwhile, Andromeda was asking for some good book to read, and I would have suggested Umberto Eco’s “Foucault’s Pendulum” if her conditions were not so strict. Sometimes coincidences can be spooky, anyway.
What has the “conservatoire des arts et métiers” to do with the book? Well… read it and you will find out!
If you want something that takes the mick out of people like Dan Brown and conspiracy theorists, then that is your book. Its only flaw is that to enjoy it and understand Eco’s subtle and refined sense of humor one should have a huge historical/philosophical background.

maybe i should relax my requirements?
i’ll check it out!
**when in reality she thinks the 3 year old dictator in the house ensures all serious trains of thought are quickly derailed**
OK, I would say that due to the lovely little tyrant you are excused if you put off the reading of any excessively engaging material… electricity and gas bills included!
the bills are the worst things! i NEVER read those!
i looked up the book on amazon and i think i might be able to handle it. i have read those dan brown books and fortunately, i am ok with history. i’ll give it a shot. thanks for the recommendation!
Good girl! One day I will tell the story of my encounter with Umberto Eco here in the UK and what he said about this book that surprised me and I did not understand immediately. I might even write a post on the subject one day.
well now i’m even more curious!
You need to read the book first, so that you will be puzzled as I was when I tell you the phrase he said to me. :-p
Worth noting that today (18 September) is Jean-Bernard-Léon Foucault’s birthdate in 1819.
